ALTHAM, ROGER, son of Roger Altham, Settle, Yorks.; b.; apparently adm. to Christ’s Coll. Camb. from Giggleswick School 6 Jun 1663, aged 15, but if so was at Westminster subsequently; KS (Capt. ) 1664; elected head to Christ Church, Oxford 1668, matr. 17 Dec 1668, aged 19, Westminster Student 26 Dec 1668 – void 1690, Tutor 1675-82, Junior Censor 1681; BA 1672; MA 1675; BD 1683; DD 1694; Proctor 1682; ordained deacon 17 Dec 1681, priest 12 Mar 1681/2 (both Oxford); Chaplain to John Dolben, Archbishop of York (qv); Prebendary of York from 19 Oct 1683, of Southwell from 1 Aug 1685, and of Ripon from 1688/9; Rector of Nunburnholme, Yorks., 1685-7; Vicar of Finedon, Northants., from 7 Jun 1688; Canon of Christ Church, Oxford, and Regius Professor of Hebrew 6 Nov 1691-7, and from 12 Mar 1702/3; m. Frances, dau. of Christopher Hodgson, New Hall, Beeston, Yorks.; d. 15 Aug 1714. Buried Christ Church Cathedral, Oxford.
