        ARDEN, WILLIAM, 2ND BARON ALVANLEY, second son of Richard Arden, 1st Baron Alvanley PC, Lord Chief Justice of the Common Pleas, and Anne Dorothea, sister of Randle Wilbraham (adm. 1784, qv); b. 8 Jan 1789; adm. 22 Jun 1800 (Clapham); in school lists 1801, 1803; succ. father as 2nd Baron Alvanley 19 Mar 1804; Ensign, 2nd Foot Guards 31 Mar 1804; Lieut. and Capt. 22 Dec 1808; Capt. , 50th Foot 16 Aug 1810; 100th Foot, half pay 20 Aug 1812; retd. with rank of Lieut. -Col. Jun 1826; served on Walcheren expedition, 1809; fought a duel with Morgan O’Connell 4 May 1835; a wit and well-known figure in fashionable society (Greville, Memoirs, entry under 23 Jan 1850); d. unm. 16 Nov 1849.
