BATTELEY, OLIVER, son of Rev. Nicholas Batteley, Vicar of Bekesbourne, Kent, and Anne, dau. of --- Porkington, Hunts.; b. 3 Aug 1697; adm.; QS (aged 15) 1712; elected to Trinity Coll. Cambridge 1716, but went to Christ Church, Oxford, matr. 8 Jun 1716, Canoneer Student 23 Jul 1717 - 29 Jun 1737 (expiry year of grace as R. Iron Acton), Tutor 1720-35, Junior Censor 1728-31, Senior Censor 1732-5; BA 1720; MA 9 Mar 1723/4; BD 1734; Proctor 1731; ordained; Curate, Cowley, Oxfordshire, 1727; Rector of Iron Acton, Gloucs., 1736 (year of grace from 30 Jun 1736); Rector of Cwm, Flints., from 1751; Prebendary of Llandaff 28 Jun 1757; edited the works of his uncle Ven. John Batteley DD, Archdeacon of Canterbury, 1745; buried Bath 26 Sep 1762. DNB (s. v. Nicholas Batteley).
