Steven, History of the High School of Edinburgh, 1849, 136); still at school Christmas 1794; Cornet, 3rd Dragoon Guards 3 May 1797; Lieut., 11 Jan 1800; Capt. in Army 10 Jul 1801; Capt., 3rd Dragoon Guards 3 Dec 1802; Maj., 15th Light Dragoons 31 Aug 1809; still in Army List 1812 (not 1813); of Invermay, Perthshire; living 1826.
