Camb. 1653); tutor of John Locke (qv); Principal, St. Mary Hall, Oxford, 15 Oct 1656 - ejected June 1660; opened school at Nettlebed, Oxfordshire; licensed as Congregational preacher at Henley on Thames 22 Apr 1672; Minister of Independent Congregation, Silver Street, London, Feb 1674; his congregation subsequently met at Tallow Chandlers’ Hall, Dowgate Hill, and at Pinners’ Hall, Old Broad Street, where he preached his last sermon 22 Aug 1697; d. 16 Sep 1697.
