CONYBEARE, WILLIAM DANIEL, younger son of William Conybeare (qv); b. 7 Jun 1787; in school list May 1803; Ch. Ch. Oxford, matr. 28 Jan 1805; 1st cl. Classics & 2nd cl. Mathematics 1808; BA 1808; MA 1811; Select Preacher 1811; Bampton Lecturer 1839; ordained priest (Peterborough) 21 Sep 1817; Rector of Sully, Glamorgan, 1822-36; Rector of Axminster, Devon, 1836-48; Dean of Llandaff from 29 Sep 1844; a leading geologist; FRS 9 Dec 1819; contributed numerous papers on geology and on palaeontology to Transactions of the Royal and Geological Societies; he and Sir Henry De La Beche founded the Bristol Philosophical and Literary Institute 1812; m. 23 Aug 1814 Sarah Anne, sister of Charles Ranken (qv); d. 12 Aug 1857.
