Dec. 24, 1914; went out to the western front May 11, 1916; was mistaken for another officer of the same name and reported by the War Office April 11, 1917, as killed; seriously wounded in the thigh while leading his men in an unsuccessful assault on Greenland Hill April 29, and was invalided home; joined the Air Force on his recovery in the autumn of 1917, and was gazetted to a permanent lieutenancy in the army July 12, 1918, with seniority from Sept. 1915; having received his wings as a pilot he was ordered to the Italian front Sept. 11, 1918; killed while fighting two Austrian machines over an aerodrome at Pianzana, North Italy, before the rest of his patrol could get to his assistance, Oct. 28, 1918; unm.
