        Hughes, Anselm Humphrey Vaughan, brother of Francis Vaughan Hughes (q.v.); b. April 15, 1889; adm. Sept. 26, 1901 (G); left Dec. 1905; Keble Coll. Oxon., matric. Michael­ mas 1906; B.A. 1911; M.A. 1914; Ely Theol. Coll. 1911; ord. deacon 1912, priest 1913 (Southwark); Curate of St. Peter, Walworth, Surrey, 1912-4, and of St. Paul, New South­gate, Middlesex, 1914-6; Clerical Secretary of the Society of the Faith 1915-20; joined the Anglican community of Benedictine Monks at Pershorc, co. Warwick, 1922, and is known in religion as Dom Anselm O.S.B.; Prior 1935-45; F.S.A. 1953; author of Early English Harmony (1913) and many other works; editor and part author of the New Oxford History of Music (1954); d. 8 Oct. 1974.
