Thanks PE for consulting Athenaeus ms. - criticism of Schweighauser. Has heard of an Athenaeus mss. In Florence, though later than the Venetian. Clarendon Press will not yet publish J B Gail's Xenophon, since it has recently reprinted Schneider's edition. Correspondence with Boissonade. Asks for PE's comments on 1st volume of Poetae Minores (which he will include in an appendix in volume 2).
On his little left-handed nephew (Taylor) going to school going to school in Chislehurst - probably best for him to start after the holidays. He should learn French and Latin, but Greek will be wholly unnecessary, at least for some time. Has not yet seen Southey's Don Roderic (Roderick the Last of the Goths), but Bedford gives a good account of its sales - expects some fine passages, but the general story and action to be heavy and tedious. Waverley is the most entertaining novel he has read for some time.
Asks for advice for purchasing an edition of Sophocles, with Latin notes - also Aeschylus and Euripides. Has taken PE's watch to be cleaned by Martin in King Street. A copy of Barre Roberts' book awaits PE at Paine's (presumably Letters and Miscellaneous Papers of Barre Charles Roberts, with a Memoir of his Life - reviewed by Southey in the Quarterly Review of January, 1815).
