Collation of Bodleian mss. of Soph. Ajax, requested by PE for certain passages. Poor sales of PE's Acharnians because of inefficiency of booksellers - hopes the Heracleidae will fare better. Hopes that the rumour is true that PE will publish one of Charles Burney's transcripts from the grammatical ms. in Paris.

Thomas Gaisford to Peter Elmsley

Luke-warm on question of reprinting Tyrwhitt's minor works - many of his conjectures have found their way into other editions, though it is true that many have not. On his own edition of Minor Poets. On PE's Heracleidae - criticises Wyttenbach. On Samuel Musgrave's collations - not at the Clarendon or in the Bodleian - perhaps in the margins of a book in his library (sold at auction in 1780). Loss of a Euripides ms. in Paris.

Thomas Gaisford to Peter Elmsley

Will send account of Scaligus' copy of Eur. for PE's new edition of the Heracleidae. On lost Parisian mss. of Eur. Asks PE to consult an Athenaeus ms. 1st volume of Poetae Graeci Minores completed - PE to receive a complimentary copy. PE going to Paris - TG asks for report on the state of the Royal Library.

Thomas Gaisford to Peter Elmsley

Thanks PE for consulting Athenaeus ms. - criticism of Schweighauser. Has heard of an Athenaeus mss. In Florence, though later than the Venetian. Clarendon Press will not yet publish J B Gail's Xenophon, since it has recently reprinted Schneider's edition. Correspondence with Boissonade. Asks for PE's comments on 1st volume of Poetae Minores (which he will include in an appendix in volume 2).
