Letter from George Matthew, 25th July 1952. Mayor of Gloucester. Possibility of placing a memorial in the Lady Chapel to those who lost their lives when HMS Gloucester went down off Crete (May, 1941 - 722 were lost from a crew of 807).
Letter from George Owen Wynn Apperley (1884-1960), painter, Placeta S Nicolas, Granada. Hopes to meet JPW in Granada; JPW
Letter from George Peabody Gooch (1873-1968), historian. Will book May 30,
Letter from Gerald Dorchester, 7th February 1952. Thanks for copy of Latin sermon - the Latin is delightful and pellucid. Sorry that Harold Costley White has had another attack of 'the old enemy' (see previous letters).
Letter from Gerald Wellesley (1885-1972), Duke of Wellington. Cannot be president of the committee for JPW
Letter from Gordon Selwyn, 27th April 1949. Dean of Winchester. Thrilled by the pictures in the Illustrated London News of the newly painted monuments in Gloucester Cathedral. Wants address of Miss Janet Becker (Margaret Janet Becker?), because they have something similar but smaller at Winchester.
Letter from Gordon Selwyn, 9th May 1951. Dean of Winchester - see previous letters. On Tanner's (presumably Lawrence) Memorandum on Canon LI, which apparently omits reference to the three colleges (Westminster, Eton and Winchester).
Letter from Gordon Serlwyn, 11th September 1947. Dean of Winchester. On the next atomic meeting. Hopes that Harold Costley White's draft of Christianity and the Control of Power (Political) will be ready in time. His own draft of Christianity and the Control of Power (Cultural) will probably not be.
Letter from G.U. Robins, 25th April 1953. Thanks for letter thanking him for his services to the Cathedral. Retirement wishes. Remembers Bishop Ellicott being taken ill at the altar.
Letter from H. Bagenal, 6th February 1953. Consulting architect. Had visited during a turning point in history - impressed at the CWs being native to great events and not upset by entertaining the American army. Thinks the Chapter House vault web should be sprayed with asbestos fibre spray (as has been done in Guildford Cathedral), and discusses colour. What dates would suit Harold Costley White and Col. Waller (see previous letters) for a visit?
