Asks PE to call - his father has died.

Apparently PE on behalf of his sister-in-law Mary Elmsley (nee Hallowell) has questioned whether Henry Bedford can forward letters to Mary's brother Admiral Sir Benjamin Hallowell Carew. Would like to accompany PE to Cambridge, but the notice is too short and his father is unwell.

A very wordy account of his relations with the daughter of the household - his brother Henry came to stay and was involved. How are his attentions to and friendship with the girl to be interpreted? Is he being honourable? Appears to decide on making a proposal - but by letter or in person? (NB He died unmarried.)

Called with Courtenay on Sunday, but PE was out. Courtenay has proposed a tour, but work pressures hold Bedford back. Hopes to read OT with PE.
