Letter from Seiriol Evans, 22nd March 1957. Invitation to preach at the Crypt School Founders' Day service in July. Harold Costley White due to conduct a wedding at the Cathedral in May. Asks the CWs to spend the night on both occasions. Has just returned from a party at St James's Palace given by the Society for the Protection of Ancient Buildings - shook hands with the Queen Mother.
Letter from Seiriol Evans, 22nd July 1953. On meetings to confront the financial problems facing the Chapter (see previous letters).
Letter from Seiriol Evans, 8th January 1963. Dean of Gloucester - Harold Costley White's successor. Long description of the death of Canon George Fendick. He opposed compromise and stuck out for high standards, especially in musical, aesthetic and intellectual matters. Had been meaning to send an invitation to the enthronement, but has heard that the CWs do not want to come (age and weather?); the new bishop is 'an understanding man but not a leader of thought.'
Letter from Scudamore, 29th August 1947. City Surveyor. On the collection of waste paper for recycling - there has been a falling off since 1943, but the need is as great as ever. Someone will call on Harold Costley White to make arrangements for collection.
Letter from Save Europe Now, 1945-47. Circular letter inviting signatures of support (founded by Victor Gollancz - campaigned against ban on sending food parcels to Germany, and against increasing rations while there was starvation in Europe).
Letter from Sarah Woodhouse, wife of Jim Woodhouse (Under Master), inviting Derek Winterbottom to a staff party. Dated 'Tuesday 13th' [September 1966].
Letter from Rose Headlam, 20th January. Thanks for letter of condolence on the death of her brother - the Bishop of Tewkesbury gave the address, and the Bishop of Dunwich was present. (Possibly Arthur Headlam, former Bishop of Gloucester - this would explain why the Chapter sent a wreath, and date the letter to January 1947.)
Letter from Rosamond Fisher, Lambeth Palace. Her speech at Worcester
Letter from Roland Bryce, 14th May 1946. Has heard from the Warden of St. Columba's that Harold Costley White expects to be in Ireland at the end of June (see 19). Invitation to stay (in Glengarriff, Co. Cork).
Letter from Robin Penman, Bangkok. His intentions for Easter;
