Letter from John E.W. Wallis, 23rd March 1948. Canon of Lichfield. Enquiry about outdoor grape-growing in England - are there any vines on the walls of the Deanery, or does the Bishop or any of his colleagues have any? If so, could he have 2 or 3 cuttings. Evidence of extensive cultivation of grapes by cathedrals and monasteries in the southern parts of medieval England.
Letter from John E.W. Wallis, 16th September 1948. Thanks Harold Costley White for news of his vine - news of his own, and of his fig tree. Will be in the Athenaeum for Convocation - perhaps there they could mitigate the severities of Canon Law by discussing the niceties of viticulture.
