Letter from Jean de Pange

Part of Westminster School's Archive and Collections

Letter from Jean de Pange, 9th January 1947. In French, thanking Harold Costley White for his two letters. On the history and status of coronation rites (de Pange published 'Le Roi tres chretien' in 1949). Grateful for the affection shown towards his son Victor (who studied at Oxford), and most touched by a letter from Hope Costley White, saying that in talking to Victor she sometimes thought she was talking to Maurice (another son, who died in 1929).

Letter from Jamie Whitworth, 17th October 1965. Addressed to both Harold and Hope Costly-White. Grandson at Eton - the son of Isabel. Thanks for the music (apparently Chopin). Have they seen the Eton documentary on television? The boys have been given all the unused footage, so they can possibly make another documentary. Taking A Levels next summer.

Letter from Jack Goodliffe
GB 2014 WS-05-COS-01-221 · Item · 16/12/1953
Part of Westminster School's Archive and Collections

Letter from Jack Goodliffe, 16th December 1953. Good wishes for retirement - Harold Costley White's greatest gifts to the church came in the later years, 'when so often there is disillusionment and failure of powers.' When he first came the Cathedral was majestic, but cold and unwelcoming - that has all changed. (A pencilled note puts this letter in 1953, but given the content 1952 seems preferable.)
