Bigge has seen a Dr Holland - all are united on the sort of exercise PE should take, and also that he should not go to Paris. Has been to Waddon and heard that PE has enquired about a horse - strongly urges the risks of this, and to allow him and Bigge to purchase a chaise instead. (Note from Wynn - supports Bedford in every detail.)

Pleased at a letter from PE - then shocked to see that it was dictated to his niece. Regards from Hallam. Proposes a visit - will stop by Dropmore on the way back. Has been in communication with Lord Grenville, and hopes Lord G. will not be disappointed in him when they meet. May see Wynn at Dropmore on his way to see PE...if he can be spared from the Cabinet.

On canvassing on PE's behalf in an election (v.440f). A (modern) pencilled note on the back claims this election concerned the preachership of Gray's Inn - this is incorrect (the Gray's Inn preachership changed in 1811 and 1815), but in 1812 William Van Mildert was elected to the preachership of Lincoln's Inn.

Has just left Dropmore - no letter awaited him from PE, so hopes that no news is good news. Kidd gave him a good account of PE. Enquires after leg and and the red spot thereon, and wishes that both are diminishing.

Aulus Gellius [Sir William Gell] to PE at the Albergo della Speranzella (possibly in Naples?) re the publication of some papyri, to be dedicated to the King (if the King should disappear, the name can be changed from George to Frederick, George III's 2nd son. No date, but an oblique reference to the dropping of the Pains and Penalties Bill puts it between Nov 1820 and Aug 1821 (death of Queen Caroline). See Horsfall p476f & notes ad loc - perhaps the letter should be dated to late 1820, just after PE's departure from Italy.

Has been confined to the house by sickness - has a blister on his side the size of the Westminster pancake. Asks to come to PE to eat potatoes or rice.

Thomas Bigge the goldsmith - a number of letters refer to the despatch of items of plate. 9/7/19 refers to the imminent publication of Don Juan and the suppression of the abusive 'dedication' to Southey and Lord Castlereagh - the poem is said to contain scandalous abuse of Lady Byron.
