Michaelmas 1909; B.A. 1912; M.A. 1916; called to the bar at the Middle Temple Jan. 26, 1912; a member of the London County Council 1913-9; Lieut. 2nd Co. of London Yeomanry April 18, 1913; retired on account of ill health April 20, 1916; served in Egypt and the Sinai Peninsula 1914-6; admitted to the Middle Temple April 19, 1909; M.P. for Colchester 1929-45; author of Because I've not been there before (1929), I'd Like to go Again (1954), and After Dinner (1955) m. June 28, 1928; Frances Merriman, daughter of Dr. Harold Merriman Cooper, O.B.E., of Hampton-on-Thames; d. 12 Feb. 1966.
