        LISTER, THOMAS, 1ST BARON RIBBLESDALE, only son of Thomas Lister (adm. 1736, qv); b. 22 Mar 1752; in school lists 1764,1765,1767,1769, having previously been at Eton; carved his name on the Coronation Chair in Westminster Abbey; Brasenose Coll. Oxford, matr. 2 May 1769; MA 1772; DCL 8 Jul 1773; MP Clitheroe 16 Apr 1773-90; fitted out a frigate at his own expense on outbreak of American War; raised a corps of Yorkshire Light Dragoons, of which he was Maj. -Commandant, Sep 1779-83, and three troups of Yorkshire Yeomanry (“Yorkshire West Riding Cavalry”) 1794; High Sheriff, Yorkshire 1794; created Baron Ribblesdale 26 Oct 1797; Col-Commandant, Craven Legion, which he was mainly instrumental in raising, from 7 Sep 1803; m. 7 Nov 1789 Rebecca, dau. of Joseph Feilding, Ireland; d. 22 Sep 1826.
