Melcarth, Edward (known at school as Edward Epstein), son of Edward Morris Epstein of Louisville, Kentucky, and Eva, d. of Hilmar Ehrman; step-son of Sir Reginald Mitchell Banks KC MP; b. 31 Jan. 1914; adm. Sept. 1927 (H), (B) Sept. 1928; left July 1930; assumed the name of Melcarth in lieu of Epstein; Harvard Univ. 1932-6; studied art in Paris; a painter and sculptor; one-man shows London, Paris, Brussels, New York; executed murals for New York theatres; m. 28 June 1939 Joan Beer; d. 14 Dec. 1973 in Venice.
