PAGET, LORD GEORGE AUGUSTUS FREDERICK, third son of Henry William Paget, 1st Marquis of Anglesey (qv), and his second wife; b. 16 Mar 1818; adm. 27 Apr 1829; Cornet and Sub-Lieut., 1st Life Guards 25 Jul 1834; Lieut., 1 Dec 1837; Capt., unattached, half-pay 17 Aug 1841; 4th Light Dragoons 17 Jun 1842; Maj., 30 Jan 1846; Lieut. -Col., 29 Dec 1846; Brevet Col., 20 Jun 1854; Major-Gen., 11 Nov 1861; Col., 7th Dragoon Guards 28 Jan 1868 – Jan 1874 [check]; Lieut. -Gen., 28 Feb 1871; Col., 4th Light Dragoons (Hussars), from 7 Jan 1874; Gen., 1 Oct 1877; served in Crimean War, commanding 4th Light Dragoons in Light Cavalry charge at battle of Balaclava, and the remains of the Light Brigade at battle of Inkerman; MP (Whig) Beaumaris 1847-57; KCB 2 Jun 1869; his Crimean Journals were printed for private circulation in 1875, a published edition following in 1881; m. 1st, 27 Feb 1854 his cousin Agnes Charlotte, third dau. of Hon.
