Stannus, Anthony Carey; son of James Stannus, Carrickfergus, co.Antrim, Ireland, builder and harbour master, and Margaret, dau. of Anthony Carrey, Carrickfergus, co.Antrim ; b. 16 Apr 1830 ; ed. Royal Belfast Academical Institution and Belfast School of Design ; studied art in London ; exhibited at Royal Academy 1862-80 ; Drawing Master Jan – Dec 1865 ; subsequently artist attached to Mexican Army ; correspondent for Illustrated London News ; returned to Belfast 1882 ; President, Belfast Ramblers Sketching Club 1885-90 ; m.1st, 14 Dec 1878 Alice Trophy, youngest dau. of Donald Keith, Kensington ; m.2nd, 1899 Emily Louisa, second dau. of William Primrose Mills, Kensington, barrister ; d. 3 Aug 1919.
