Classics (Mods) 1860, 2nd cl. Lit. Hum. 1862; BA 1862; MA 1865; Junior Proctor 1870-1; Public Examiner 1872-3; Whitehall Preacher 1873-5; Select Preacher 1875-7; ordained deacon 1864, priest 1865 (both Oxford); Rector of Iron Acton, Gloucs., 1877-89; Warden of St. Peter’s Coll., Radley 1888-96; Vicar of St. Mary the Virgin, Oxford, 14 Oct 1896-1904; a Governor of the School 1869-79 and from 1885; one of the last three Westminster Students of Christ Church elected for life under the old system; gave evidence before the Public Schools Commission 21 Nov 1862 (Parliamentary Papers 1864, xx, 466-75); author, Memoir of Henry George Liddell DD, 1899, and History of Christ Church, Oxford, 1900, both of which contain much interesting matter relating to the School; m. 30 Jun 1877 Catherine, eldest dau. of Sir James Paget, Bart.
