RICHARD, brother of Robert Hampden-Trevor, 1st Viscount Hampden (qv); b. 30 Sep 1707; at school under Freind (Nichols, Literary Anecdotes, ix, 241-50) [check : surprising that he is not in admissions]; Queen’s Coll. Oxford, matr. 6 Jul 1724; BA 1727; MA 28 Jan 1730/1; DCL 1736; Fellow, All Souls Coll. 1727; ordained; Rector of Houghton with Wilton, Hunts., 1732; Canon of Christ Church, Oxford, 8 Nov 1735 - Dec 1752; consecrated Bishop of St. Davids 1 Apr 1744; translated to Durham 7 Dec 1752; defeated by George Henry Lee, 3rd Earl of Lichfield (qv) in election for Chancellorship of Oxford Univ., 1762; inherited the estates of his kinsmen, the Trevor family of Glynde, Sussex, in 1743; d. unm. 9 Jul 1771.
