PURCELL, HENRY; b.; adm.; BB 1678-80 (Chapter Muniments 33713-5). [It has been suggested that this was Henry Purcell, the composer (c. 1659-1695), whose elder brother Charles might have been BB 1670-7; but by 1678 Henry Purcell already held appointments in royal service as Assistant to Keeper of Wood and Keyboard Instruments (since 29 Sep 1673) and Composer for Violins (from 10 Sep 1677), and he appears to have been Organist of Westminster Abbey from as early as autumn 1679. He also seems to have married no later than autumn 1680, for his eldest son was bapt. 9 Jul 1681] [Another possibility is that the BB was Henry Purcell, son of Richard Purcell, bapt. Worthen, Shropshire 31 Oct 1670 (IGI)].
