Oxford, matr. 19 Mar 1745/6; BA 1749; MA 1752; LLD Dublin [described as such in will, but not in Burtchaell/Sadleir]; ordained; obtained living in diocese of Tuam, Ireland 1763 (Mrs. Delany, Autobiography, 2nd series, I, 18), and when in Ireland became a close friend of Dean Delany and his wife; inherited Sandford Hall estate 1769; m. Oct 1764 Sarah, dau. of Rev. John Chapone; d. 1771 (will proved PCC 19 Dec 1771). [Perhaps Chancellor of Cloyne from 29 Aug 1767]

Middle Temple 16 Nov 1748; MP (I) Lisburn 1776 – still 1784; a Commissioner of Barracks (I) (occurs 1781); non-resident owner of a plantation in Jamaica (Hickey, Memoirs, ii, 55-60). [will of Fitzherbert Richards, Marlborough Buildings, Bath, proved PCC 9 Aug 1811] [TCD admissions also give Robert Richards, son of Rev. Richard Richards, b. co. Monaghan, TCD adm. 11 Apr 1743, aged 15, ed. by “Mr. Folds”, so it seems likely that Fitzherbert Richards’s father’s Christian name was Richard, not Robert]
