ALLEN, LANCELOT BAUGH, brother of John Hensleigh Allen (qv); b. 1 Jan 1774; adm. 9 Jun 1784; KS 1789; Capt. of the School 1793; elected head to Trinity Coll. Cambridge 1794, adm. pens. 17 Jun 1794; not admitted scholar as refused to take statutable oath, and did not matr.; adm. Lincoln’s Inn 9 May 1798, called to bar 12 May 1803; adm. Inner Temple 21 Jun 1819; Warden of Dulwich Coll. 1805-11, Master 1811-20; secured Desenfans collection of pictures for Dulwich Coll.; Police Magistrate, Union Hall, Southwark 1819-25; a Clerk of the Petty Bag, Chancery, from 11 Dec 1824; one of the Six Clerks in Chancery 19 Aug 1825-42, when the office was abolished; Savoy Steward for Duchy of Lancaster from 6 May 1834; m. 1st, 22 May 1820 Caroline Jane, eldest dau. of Thomas Peter Romilly, Dulwich; m. 2nd, 29 Jul 1841 Georgiana Sarah, eldest dau. of Charles Nathaniel Bayly (qv); d. 28 Oct 1845.
