Cambridge, adm. sizar 1 Nov 1740, matr. 1740/1; BA 1744/5; MA 1748; BD 1756; Fellow of St. John’s 29 Mar 1748, Senior Fellow 12 Jul 1766 – Mar 1776, Steward 28 Feb 1766 - Jan 1767, President 29 Jan 1767 - 24 Mar 1775; ordained deacon (Norwich) 25 Dec 1746 to curacy of Halesworth, Suffolk, priest (Ely) 24 May 1752; Rector of Hungarton, Leics., 7 Nov 1757-69; Rector of Twyford, Leics., 7 Nov 1757-66; Rector of Barrow, Suffolk, from 3 Aug 1774; Rector of Stansfield, Suffolk, from 11 Oct 1780; FSA 10 Mar 1774; described by Cole as “a very good antiquary, learned critic, and much conversant in medals and pictures” (Cole’s MSS, xvi, 309); aided Nichols in his History of Leicestershire, Daines Barrington in his Observations on the Statutes, and was a contributor to the Gentleman’s Magazine and to Nichols’s Literary Anecdotes; d. 12 Jun 1808.
