BACON, MONTAGU, second son of Nicholas Bacon, Shrubland Hall, Coddenham, Suffolk, by Lady Catherine Montagu, sister of Hon. Oliver Montagu (qv); bapt. Barham, Suffolk 13 Dec 1688; at school under Knipe (Admissions to Trin. Coll. Camb., iii, 13); Trinity Coll. Cambridge, adm. fellow commoner 16 Feb 1704/5, aged 16, matr. 1705; MA 1734; adm. Middle Temple 29 Mar 1704, called to bar 15 May 1715; Commissioner for Hawkers and Pedlars 15 Jun 1715 – 7 Mar 1724; subsequently ordained; Rector of Newbold Verdon, Leics., from 1743; author, Critical Historical and Explanatory Notes upon Hudibras, 1752; d. 7 Apr 1749.
