Baker, Francis Douglas, son of Albert de Winter Baker, M.R.C.S., of Battersea, by Margaret Charlotte Kirby, daughter of His Honour Francis Barrow, County Court Judge and Recorder of Rochester; b. Sept. 15, 1884; adm. as Q.S. Sept. 22, 1898; left July 1901; was for some years in the office of the Englishman at Calcutta; a trooper and N. C. O. in the Royal 1st Devon Yeomanry Aug. 1914 - July 1915; 2nd Lieut. in the same regt. July 1915 - Jan. 1917; joined the E. E. F. Jan. 1917 and was on Lord Alienby's Staff until Jan. 1920 with the rank of Major; served in Gallipoli, Egypt, Palestine, Syria, and Asia Minor; mentioned in despatches L. G. July 13, 1916, and June 5, 1919; M.C. June 3, 1916; Order of the Crown ofltaly (5th class) 1918, and of the Nile (4th class) 1919; appointed Bimbashi, Egyptian Police, March 1920, Asst. Commandant Cairo City Police; Commandant 1937; Commandant Alexandria City Police; Pasha; O.B.E. 1934; C.B.E. Jan. 1, 1942; Order of Ismail (3rd class) and Nile (3rd class); Cdr. Crown of Roumania; retired from Egyptian Govt. Service 1946; m. June 15, 1925, Nevarte, daughter of Karakin Marian; d. 1958.
