BRODERICK, THOMAS; b.; adm. (aged 10) Jul 1718; left 1721. [Perhaps Thomas Brod (e)rick, son of William Brod (e)rick, Judge of King’s Bench, Ireland; Lieut. Royal Navy 11 Jan 1727; distinguished himself at Porto Bello in 1739, while serving under the command of Edward Vernon (qv); Cdr. 1741; Capt. 27 Mar 1741; also saw service on expeditions to Cartagena and Cuba; Rear Adm., 4 Jun 1756; member court martial on Adm. Byng Jan 1757; second-in-command, Mediterranean Fleet Jan 1758; rescued from sea after destruction of his flagship, HMS Prince George, by an accidental fire 13 Apr 1758; Vice-Adm., 14 Feb 1759; present at blockade of Toulon and action in Lagos Bay; commanded British fleet in blockade of Cadiz; MP Middleton (I) 1761-8; m. 29 May 1728 (IGI) Mary, dau. of Benjamin Robins; d. 1 Jan 1769.
