Can. 1864; left Christmas 1865; went out to Queensland; became one of proprietors of Mount Morgan mine; returned to England with a large fortune in 1889; subsequently acquired original D’Arcy conecession of Anglo-Iranian Oil Co.; of Stanmore Hall, Middlesex; m. 1st, 23 Oct 1872 Elena, dau. of Samuel Bradford Birkbeck, Glenmore, Queensland; m. 2nd, 21 Feb 1899 Nina, dau. of Arthur Leslie Boucicault, Queensland, and sister of Mary Boucicault, singer; d. 1 May 1917.
