        DEE, ARTHUR, son of Rev. John Dee, Warden of Manchester College, the famous astrologer, and his second wife Jane, dau. of Bartholomew Fromond, East Cheam, Surrey ; b. 13 Jul 1579 ; adm. 3 May 1592 (The Private Diary of Dr John Dee, Camden Soc Pub xix, 40); studied probably both at Oxford and at Cambridge; settled in London with intention of practising medicine, but was cited before the College of Physicians as an unlicensed practitioner; became physician to the Tsar of Russia, remaining in Russia for about 14 years; subsequently a Physician in Ordinary to King Charles I; latterly practising medicine in Norwich; a student of hermetical philosophy and for many years a friend of Sir Thomas Browne ; author, Fasciculus Chemicus, published in Paris in 1631; m. Isabella, dau. of Edward Prestwych, Hulme, Lancs.; d. Sep 1651. DNB.
