DOLBEN, JOHN, son of John Dolben (elected Oxford 1640, qv); bap 1 Jul 1662; at school in 1676 (Calendar of Wynn Papers, 2778); Christ Church, Oxford, matr. 23 Mar 1677/8, Canoneer Student 11 Jul 1678 - void 1683; BA 1681 (Act Book); adm. Inner Temple, called to bar 1684; dissipated his fortune and went to West Indies, where he married a rich wife; returned to England, but again abandoned himself to gaming; MP Liskeard from Nov 1707; an active parliamentarian; led impeachment proceedings against Sacheverell Dec 1709 - Jan 1710, but broke down in health and retired to Epsom, Surrey; m. Elizabeth, second dau. of Tanfield Mulso, Finedon, Northants.; d. 29 May 1710. DNB.
