FINCH, WILLIAM, VISCOUNT MAIDSTONE, eldest son of Heneage Finch, 2nd Earl of Winchilsea, and his second wife Lady Mary Seymour, second dau. of William Seymour, 2nd Duke of Somerset KG PC; b.; adm.; a boarder with Busby; left 1660, when Busby recorded that “Lord Maddeston left 2 beds and furniture of chamber, but paid nothing for himself or man, either entrance, board, school, or attendance in time of sicknes at nursery” (Busby’s Account Book, as quoted Barker, Memoir of Richard Busby, 115); St. John’s Coll. Cambridge, adm. fellow commoner 28 Nov 1664, matr. 1664; MA 1666; m. Elizabeth, dau. of Thomas Windham, Felbrigg Hall, Norfolk; killed in sea battle against the Dutch in Southwold Bay 28 May 1672.
