FOULKES, PETER, third son of Robert Foulkes, Llechryd, Denbighshire, Deputy Baron of the Court of Exchequer, Chester, and Jane Ameridith, Landulph, Cornwall; a relation of William Jane (qv); bapt. St. Mary on the Hill, Chester 5 Nov 1676 (IGI); adm.; KS 1690; elected head to Christ Church, Oxford 1694, matr. 16 Jun 1694, aged 17, Westminster Student 29 Dec 1694 - void by marriage 1707, Tutor 1701-7, Junior Censor 1703-5; BA 1698; MA 1701; DD 1710; Proctor 1705; ordained; Prebendary of Exeter from 29 Sep 1704, Sub-Dean 25 Jun 1723-4, Chancellor 27 May 1724-31, Precentor 1 Oct 1731; Rector of Cheriton Bishop, Devon, from 1714; Canon of Christ Church from 25 Nov 1724, Sub-Dean 1725-33; he and John Freind (KS 1691, qv) produced an edition of Demosthenes, De Corona, 1695, of which a copy given by Foulkes to Jonathan Trelawny (qv) is in the School Library; m. 1st, 4 Aug 1707 Elizabeth Bidgood, Rockbeare, Devon; m. 2nd, by 1726, ---, sister of William Holwell, Exeter, Devon; m. 3rd, 26 Dec 1738 Anne, widow of William Holwell, and second dau. of Right Rev.
