        FYNES-CLINTON, HENRY, eldest son of Rev. Charles Fynes (afterwards Fynes-Clinton) DCL, Prebendary of Westminster and Perpetual Curate of St. Margaret’s, Westminster, and Emma, dau. of Job Brough, Newark, Notts.; b. 14 Jan 1781; at Southwell GS 1789-96; adm. Sep 1796; in school list 1797; left Easter 1799; Christ Church, Oxford, matr. 11 Apr 1799, Canoneer Student 24 Dec 1802 - void by marriage 22 Jun 1809; BA 1803; MA 1805; private tutor at Oxford to Earl Gower, afterwards 2nd Duke of Sutherland, 1803-6; adm. Lincoln’s Inn 19 Nov 1808; MP Aldborough 1806-26; assumed additional surname of Clinton 26 Apr 1821; an indefatigable classical student; an unsuccessful candidate for position of Principal Librarian of the British Museum Dec 1827; author, Fasti Hellenici, 1824-34, and other works; in his Literary Remains, published in 1854, mention is made of several of his school contemporaries, particularly those who were afterwards with him at Oxford; m. 1st, 22 Jun 1809 Harriott, eldest dau. of Rev. Charles Wylde DD, Prebendary of Southwell and Rector of St. Nicholas, Nottingham; m. 2nd, 6 Jan 1812 Katharine, third dau. of Right Rev. Henry William Majendie DD, Bishop of Bangor; d. 24 Oct 1852.
