Scope and content

This ledger was kept by the Head of House and gives details of new boys and boys who had left, sporting results and accounts of matches, comments on the characters of previous heads of house, monitors and house masters, names of those who received colours, details of the 'Ash Tree' (the House magazine), details of plays performed by the House, accounts of music competitions and any other events which the Heads thought interesting to record. Early entries give details of the House's evacuation to Lancing and Exeter. Some entries give general notes and summaries of previous years or terms and details of discipline within the House. At the front of the volume are details of Head of House, Monitors, Housemasters and the names of those who gained pinks. At the end of the volume is a list of those who gained double pinks and any captaincies they held. \r\n\r\nThe entries from Play Term 1942 -Election term 1949 are titled' Homeburnham', after Ashburnham and Homeboarders amalgamated into one House between 1941-1949. After 1949 the entries proceed to be solely for Ashburnham House, after the Houses split again. Some entries have house lists inserted with them. There are also newspaper cuttings inserted, one of which give details of a visit to Westminster School by the King and Queen. The last entry is continued in the next volume.
