Archival history
Mathew Maty, M.D. bequeathed the painting to the British Museum. Loaned to the school by the National Portrait Gallery, 1981. Returned to National Portrait Gallery, 3rd June 2009. Loaned once again to the school on 27th August 2014. A copy of Kneller's portrait which was entered the Hermitage in 1779; acquired from the R. Walpole collection, Houghton Hall, England.
