        History

GRAY, RICHARD; b.; adm. (aged 9) May 1737; left 1742. [A Richard Gray was Steward of the Anniversary Dinner 1790 : but the most likely Richard Gray living in 1790 who might have been an OW and was of sufficient status to be Steward seems to be Richard Gray, Deputy Auditor of the Receipt of Exchequer 1781-1805, Auditor from 7 May 1805 to death 16 Oct 1825 (of Ealing, Middlesex, will proved PCC 13 Nov 1825), who can scarcely have been born c. 1728 (perhaps also Deputy Receiver of Crown Rents; FSA 1790). Maybe the Steward of 1790 was at school under Markham, and the Richard Gray who was at school 1737-42 was his father (?), another Richard Gray, who was of the Exchequer Office and d. 16 Sep 1781 (will proved PCC 1 Oct 1781, of parish St. John’s, Westminster)]
