        Hammond, Martin, son of Walter John Hammond, of Knockholt, Kent, by Lucy, daughter of Frederick Hyland, of Ashford, Kent; b. May 15, 1891; adm. as K.S. Sept. 28, 1905; elected to an exhibition at Ch. Ch. Oxon. July 1910, matric. Michaelmas 1910; B.A. 1913; joined the Inns of Court O. T. C. Aug. 1914; 2nd Lieut. 13th Batt. Lancs Fusiliers Oct. 1914, transferred to 7th Batt. the Buffs and served in France July 1915 - Aug. 1916; returned home and went through staff course at Clare Coll. Camb.; Staff Capt. to H. Q. Southern Command Feb. 1918 -June 1919; mentioned in despatches; A. C. A. Feb. 1922; employed with British American Tobacco Co. Ltd. 1924-34; practised as auditor in Egypt 1934-48; a farmer in Southern Rhodesia 1950-53; now resident in Natal; m. Jan. 7, 1928, Mary Angela, daughter of E. T. Morriss, of Malton, Yorks.
