HANNAY, DAVID MCDOWALL, eldest son of James Hannay, HBM Consul Barcelona, Spain, novelist, and his first wife Margaret, dau. of Joseph Thompson, Oriental Bank Corporation; b. 25 Dec 1853; adm. 10 Apr 1865 (James'); left Aug 1868; HBM Vice-Consul, Barcelona 30 Dec 1876 –15 Sep 1877; journalist; author, The Life of Admiral Blake, and other works; an authority on naval history, and one of the founders of the Navy Records Society; d. 29 May 1934.
