IMHOFF, SIR CHARLES, second son of Baron Christoph Adam Carl von Imhoff, and Anna Maria Apollonia, dau. of Baron --- von Chapuset; stepson of Warren Hastings (qv); b.; adm. 19 Mar 1781; Magdalen Coll. Oxford, matr. 19 Nov 1785, aged 19; Ensign, 49th Foot 24 Jun 1783, half-pay 1783-99; served in one of Prince of Waldeck’s regiments 1786-93, and on return to England joined Berkshire Militia; Lieut., 1st Life Guards 29 Mar 1799; Capt., 4 Apr 1799; Maj., 4th Foot 20 Nov 1801; Lieut. -Col. (half-pay) 5 Feb 1802; 4th Garrison Bn., 17 Sep 1807; Col. in Army 4 Jun 1811; Maj. -Gen., 4 Jun 1814; Lieut. -Gen., 20 Jul 1830; Gen., 9 Nov 1846; received royal licence to accept insignia of Knight Grand Cross of St. Joachim 18 May 1807; m. 19 Feb 1795 Charlotte, sixth dau. of Sir Charles William Blunt, Bart., EICS Bengal; d. 14 Feb 1853, aged 86.
