        IMPEY, ARCHIBALD ELIJAH, natural son of Sir Elijah Impey (qv); b.; adm. 13 Jul 1772; KS (aged 12) 1778; went to Blundell’s Sch., Tiverton, Devon; Trinity Coll. Cambridge, adm. pens. 28 Oct 1782, scholar 1785, matr. Mich. 1782; BA 1787; MA 1791; adm. Inner Temple 13 Jul 1784, called to bar 18 Jun 1790, tenant chambers there from 2 Feb 1787, Bencher 1830; aided his father in his defence at the bar of the House of Commons 1788; a Commissioner of Bankrupts (occurs in annual lists 1793-1831, when post abolished); one of Commissioners for settling British claims on France under Treaty of Paris, 1814; collected materials for a biography of Warren Hastings (qv), utilised by Rev. G. R. Gleig in his Life of Warren Hastings, 1841; m. 4 Oct 1800 Sarah, dau. of Rev. C. Nathaniel Proby [ she bapt. Monks Eleigh, Suffolk 1776 ? (IGI)]; d. 9 Jul 1831.
