John Peter Winckworth (GG 1922-1927). Head and shoulders, turned to the left of the picture; he wears a suit with black tie; the background is black. Subject is named as 'Henry Lawrence' in Helen Draper's 1996 Conservation Report, but the name Winckworth is clearly written on the back of the canvas and the date of the painting and appearance of the subject support this attribution.
Three-quarters length portrait of Nicoll standing, turned to the left, wearing academic dress, collar and wig; his right hand holds a cap with a glove in it, while his left is in his pocket.
Life size portrait of Locke, whose head is inclined slightly to the left; he wears an open shirt and partially buttoned waistcoat; his hair is parted at the centre.
Head and shoulders, in academic dress and collar, facing slightly to the left; contrived emphasis on the face of the light; inscribed in early 19th century hand 'John Hinchcliffe D.D. 1764'.
