Grant's House Register

A register of the students in Grant's house, giving their name, date of birth, the dates they entered and left the school, their form, the preparatory school they attended, their address and any other remarkable achievements. Later in the register only the names of the pupils and the dates they entered and left Grant's House are recorded. There is an index at the back of the book where the students are listed by surname.

Grant's House Athletic Ledger

The ledger was begun by M. G. Hewins (G 1911 - c.1916) and contains accounts and results of senior and junior sporting events within the house; including racquets, gym, swimming and rowing, as well as inter-house competitions. It also includes a list of colours at the end of each season and criticisms of the players. At the beginning of the volume are lists of team members who are in the photographs of the football and cricket senior teams from previous years.

Henry Mordaunt Clavering to John Benn

Increasingly friends and acquaintances die, most recently George Byng, MP for Middlesex (OW) - well-meaning but not very judicious. Lane (Newton Charles), a remarkably stout lad in Grant's, knocked him down with an Ainsworth's dictionary whilst holding forth in the Sixth Form on the superiority of Mr Fox's politics. Westminster education is improving - one usher has been appointed solely to teach maths, and a Frenchman who is a Hebrew scholar has also been employed. Wonders how much exactly Lady Bath bequeathed to Pulteney (see 20).
