LE MESURIER, HAVILLAND, son of Havilland Le Mesurier, Austin Friars, City of London, merchant, formerly Commissary-Gen., Southern District, England, and Eliza Dobree, Guernsey; b. 8 Apr 1783; at school 1793; in school list 1795; left 1800; went to Berlin to learn German, intending to enter his father’s business, but changed his mind; Ensign, Royal Staffs Corps 2 Jan 1801; 20th Foot 14 May 1801; Lieut., 18 Jun 1801; 83rd Foot 1 Oct 1802; Capt., 21st Foot 25 Aug 1804; Maj., 13 Apr 1809; served as D. A. Q. G. under Sir John Moore in Sweden and during Corunna campaign; Portuguese Military Secretary to Wellington Apr 1811; supernumerary Lieut. -Col., 14th Portuguese Infantry 3 Oct 1811; Commandant, Almeida Mar 1812; commanding 12th Portuguese Infantry from May 1813; translator of two French military textbooks; d. 31 Jul 1813, from wounds received while leading his troops in battle of the Pyrenees 28 Jul. DNB.
