        LEYBORNE, SHIPPEN, second son of William Leyborne Leyborne (formerly Taylor), Westwell, Oxfordshire, Governor of Grenada, West Indies, and Anne, sister of Edward Popham (qv); b.; adm. 22 Jul 1779; Min. Can. (aged 12) 1780; entered Royal Navy; joined HMS Duke 18 Nov 1781; Midshipman; present at Sir George Rodney’s two actions against the French fleet off Dominica, West Indies 9 and 12 Apr 1782; d. on board HMS Duke in Port Royal Harbour, Jamaica 25 Jun 1782.
