Charles Otway Mayne, EIC Maritime Service, and Emma, dau. of Harry Vansittart Taylor, EICS Madras; nephew of William Mayne (qv); b. 11 Mar 1819; adm. 21 Jan 1833 (Stelfox's); KS 1833; left Dec 1835; Addiscombe Coll. 1836-7; Cadet, EICS Madras 1838; Cornet, 6th Light Cavalry 14 Jul 1838; Lieut., 23 Nov 1841; entered Nizam of Hyderabad’s service 1 Mar 1850; Brevet Capt., 11 Mar 1853; Capt., 31 Dec 1855; Brevet Maj., 24 Mar 1858; raised Mayne’s Horse and served with it 1859-60; m. 12 Jan 1850 Mary Ewer, youngest dau. of Thomas Jacob Turner, EICS Bengal; d. at Allahabad, Bengal, India 2 Nov 1861. Memorial tablet, North Cloister, Westminster Abbey.
