J. Kidd has heard that Alban Hall is vacant and that PE is a candidate for the Camden professorship. A besom is needed to sweep out the unclean birds which infest that place!

J. Kidd - perhaps, if PE takes over Alban Hall, he will be ineligible for the professorship, since his predecessor was also of Alban Hall. There is no rival candidate for the professorship, so otherwise it is a certainty - therefore delay taking over the Hall till after the election.

W. Blair re his brother - in a melancholy state and under restraint - owes money to PE's brother Alexander, but some question re the amount. Draft reply by PE - has not seen his brother for five years - currently supervising the printing of a small book, but will come to town thereafter

Lavinia Spencer (Countess Spencer) invites PE to stay at Althorp (perhaps after meeting him in Naples)

Lavinia Spencer regrets that PE is engaged for Xmas, and hopes to see him for a few days in January. She apologises that PE has been asked to write some classical verse to be inscribed on altar plate.

Boissonade (Jean Francois - Prof of Greek in Paris) sends a book/pamphlet (?)

Extract of letter from Humphrey Davy to William Hamilton. He has the support of the government, and will write to PE in the north of Italy in the hope of persuading him to go to Naples. He plans to be in Naples before the end of Oct, and hopes to give an account of progress by the start of Dec. Sadly Michael Faraday is unable to join the expedition. Horsfall pp474f.
