Oxford, matr. 8 Apr 1731; DD 2 May 1770; ordained deacon 1730, priest 1731 (both Winchester); initially beneficed in diocese of Chester; living in Philadelphia, North America, by 1736, when he applied for post of catechist in Christ Church parish; Secretary of the Land Office, Philadelphia; Rector of Christ Church and of St. Peter, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania Jan 1763 – 23 Sep 1775, retiring on grounds of health; a co-founder with Benjamin Franklin of the Public Academy of Philadelphia; m. 1st, while still at school; m. 2nd, during his first wife’s lifetime, Miss Stanley; d. at Philadelphia 10 Jul 1776.
